[ONDO ELECTIONS] EYITAYO Jegede, SAN, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, remained a force to reckon with in yesterday’s poll

The drama, the intrigues, the subterfuge

By: Florence itelola

EYITAYO Jegede, SAN, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, remained a force to reckon with in yesterday’s poll, not minding where the pendulum will ultimately swing in the election.

He can be described as a cat with nine lives. For two months, he was shuttling between courts to regain his “stolen” mandate by factional candidate Jimoh Ibrahim who he referred to as “an impostor” while the candidates of other political parties gained speed in their campaigns across the state.
The intention of the sacked Jimoh Ibrahim was to run Jegede out of town because he was the preferred governorship candidate of the incumbent governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, for the coveted seat.

Ibrahim saw an opportunity to hit Mimiko and he explored it to the fullest by making sure that Jegede, instead of criss-crossing the state to seek for votes, was busy moving from one court to the other.

He apparently succeeded in distracting both the candidate and the governor from campaigning ahead of the election.

While many still believe that Ibrahim was remotely controlled by some agents in the ruling APC to frustrate Jegede out of the race so as to give their candidate Rotimi Akeredolu speed, others have concluded that the factional PDP candidate was only out to disgrace the governor out of office by not having his way on his successor.

The  courts journey of Jegede was seen by many as a well coordinated plan by those who are jittery of his popularity and acceptability.

His victory in both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court at the nick of time, last Wednesday, was seen as divine.

The Supreme Court, on Thursday, further validated the candidacy of Jegede as the PDP flag bearer, following the striking out of all the pending interlocutory appeals filed by the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party which produced Ibrahim.

While Jegede’s victory announced him to the world, Ibrahim had his head bowed even with the judges harsh words  for him and his team of lawyers.

Despite the court decision sacking him and replacing him with Jegede, Ibrahim was undaunted as he kept fighting.

The Court of Appeal verdict which sacked Ibrahim came with some tongue lashing by the judges; yet he kept fighting insisting he remained the party’s candidate for the election.

Even when the Supreme Court dismissed a fresh appeal filed by his factional state Chairman, Biyi Poroye, seeking to disallow Jegede from flying the party’s flag, Ibrahim still pooh poohed the court verdict.

Official candidate
One of the dismissed appeals at the Supreme Court was challenging the leave by the three-man Appeal Court panel granted to Jegede to appeal against the Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court ruling which ordered the substitution of his name with that of Ibrahim for the poll.

Another appeal dismissed by the Supreme Court had sought the disbandment of the three-man appellate panel.

The Supreme Court, presided over by the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, while dismissing the appeals, described it as abuse of court process.

The ruling by the apex court finally dashed the hope of Ibrahim in participating in yesterday’s election.

A statement  by the sacked factional candidate’’ Director of Publicity and Communication, Sola Akinuli , immediately following the verdict was baffling.

He  asked his supporters in Ondo to vote for his party in the election, debunking the rumour that he had abandoned his mandate.
Akinuli said: “Ibrahim is still the official candidate of the PDP as the court of appeal did not give any consequential judgement as to replacing his name with that of Jegede.
Ibrahim asked the people to discountenance any rumour that he was collaborating with the candidate of another political party.

I am solidly in PDP and I urge all my supporters to vote PDP.
“My name as candidate was a product of a court pronouncement and not INEC, therefore only another pronouncement by a higher court can remove me

“I therefore urge my teeming supporters and indeed all citizens of the state to vote PDP”.
He reiterated his earlier reservations about some officials of the INEC, saying that some of their officers had compromised.

In another statement, the sacked governorship candidate said: “We shall get justice at the Supreme Court and if PDP wins the election we shall have our four years mandate to rule Ondo State.

He insisted: “Mimiko will not succeed himself with Jegede; this is too sure”, adding, “We continue with our work and remain in our great party, PDP”.

How  he wanted to achieve this after his sack by the courts remained unknown.
But Jegede in a statement personally signed by him after his victory in the court dedicated it to God and the good people of the state.

The PDP candidate said: “Beloved people of Ondo State and believer in out noble cause, there is no doubt that the past few weeks have been very challenging and trying times for us as we contended with anti democratic and evil forces who tried to subvert the will of God and the mandate of the people freely given to us.

“It was a tortuous journey that tested our faith in God and our conviction in the refreshingly different days ahead of us as we were taunted and harassed by hired propagandists while we tenaciously forged ahead.

“We submitted our grievances to the court despite the contraband and manipulation of those who are opposed to democracy we insisted we would explore all legal means in our avowed belief in the rule of law and the judiciary.

“Today our mouth is filled with laughter and heart with praise. Our resilience has paid off and our conviction to this doggedness of purpose has made our case another judicial precedence in the country.

“We are grateful to the judiciary for remaining the baton of democratic process and refusing to be blackmailed, brow beaten and intimidated by those who do not mean well for our state and nation.

“Now we are set to roll out the d
rums, not of war but of God’s faithfulness and sound it loud to our adversaries that the will of God and the desire of the people shall prevail. Our faith and conviction in this project has continued to grow stronger by the day instead of waning.

“For us, there is no looking back. We remain resolute and focused in our desire to bring development, progress and prosperity to our people. This is our. article of faith.

“We dedicate this victory to God and the generality of our people. We urge our people to maximally utilize the few remaining days before the polls to consolidate on our door to door campaign across the state”.

Fifth columnists
Reacting to the victory, the PDP in a statement, said “The state uses this opportunity to thank God for this victory that we attained in the Court of Appeal over the substitution of Mr Eyitayo Jegede’s name as the party’s candidate, at the orders of Justice Abang, a development that the honourable justices described as fraudulent and a charade”.

The party’s Director of Publicity in Ondo State, Ayo Fadaka, said in Akure: “We use this opportunity to appreciate the President of the Court of Appeal and the judges who sat on the matter for being professional and dedicated to their callings.

“We also thank the Supreme Court justices who also sat on this case and did justice in the most dispassionate manner.

“We indeed confirm that the judiciary asserted itself and firmly did justice. We ask those our members that were led astray by the band of fifth columnists to return to the party and ask the media to abandon the agent provocateurs whose only goal was to destroy our great party”.

Also, a former Special  Adviser to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan on Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku, congratulated Jegede on his victory at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court”.

in a text message to Sunday AychrispilaNews,
urged all PDP faithful, irrespective of differences, to unite forces as fast as possible, even at personal costs of ambition and comfort, to give victory to the party”..
Jegede’s optimism even when the cloud was at its darkest hour, ‘I will contest the governorship election and I will win’, was not taken seriously until the court granted him his prayer to contest. But will he also win? That will be known after yesterday’s election.

If the PDP candidate wins the election despite all these battles, then he will be God-sent as the 7th civilian governor of the Sunshine State since it’s creation 40 years ago and, if not, he will remain for a very long time the man to reckon with. Luckily, for him age is still on his side; if he fails to get it now, he can still get it later.

Some security agents deployed for Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State slept in some police formations as they claimed that their allowances had not been paid.

  Security agents allegedly
 lament on unpaid allowance

 by: Tunji Adekonbi, Ijare.

  Some security agents deployed
for Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo
State slept in some police formations as they
claimed that their allowances had not been
paid.

Investigation in Okitipupa revealed that the
security agencies involved included the police,
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and
the Department of State Security.
Some of the security agents, who spoke to
NAN on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, claimed they slept in any available police station in the area of deployment and were unable to feed well because of unpaid allowance.

“Those that do not have relatives here slept
over in the police station and we also had to
make arrangement for feeding because our
allowances were not paid, ‘’ one of them told
NAN.

Also reports that the security agents had
removed all barricades and checkpoints on
major highways in the area, ensuring free
vehicular movement.

All efforts by NAN to speak with the Divisional Police Officer in Okitipupa, Mr Oluwole Ojo, however, proved abortive.

But the spokesman of the Ondo State Police
Command, Mr Femi Joseph, said he was not
aware of the development.
“ I am not aware and I do not have the facts
now because I am at INEC headquarters. I do
not think any police man would contemplate
leaving his duty post,’’ he said.

The police said 26,000 personnel, three
helicopters, 12 Armoured Personnel Carriers
and 20 gunboats were deployed for the
election.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim
Idris, also said five officers would be at each
polling unit during the election while three
helicopters would be patrolling each of the
senatorial districts.

Idris added that three commissioners of police
would be in the state for special operations
during the election.

The NSCDC also said 15, 000 personnel and 25
sniffer dogs would be deployed for the poll

– PDP claims that INEC has allowed leeways for the Ondo election to be compromised in
favour of another party
– The party also claimed that the security agents also did not do their job when they allowed an APC official trying to buy votes to go free

PDP says INEC has comprised election process to favour another party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being unready for the Ondo election.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 26, PDP said the election was plagued by irregularities which it believed were avenues for which the electoral body would turn the polls in favour of another party.

The statement read: “ Early observations from the conduct of the Ondo state gubernatorial election has shown several irregularities and poor preparations on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as men and officers of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies.
“Voters in several parts of the State have suffered several incidents of Card Reader failures. Despite the fact that INEC owns more than xxx units of Card Readers, in several locations there are no back up Card Readers. As such, many voters are already being deprived of the right to cast a vote for the candidate of their choice.
“For instance, the Polling Unit of Governor Olusegun Mimiko suffered Card Reader failure at his Polling Unit – Ward 7 Unit 20 Ondo West Local Government Area – that has prevented voters from casting their votes.

“In Ward 2 of Akure South Local Government Area, Tunji Light-Ariyo, a known Chieftain of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) was recorded campaigning on behalf of and canvassing for votes for the APC candidate – Chief Rotimi Akeredolu – at PUs 28, 29, and 30 in spite of the prohibition of such actions by the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

“The recording of this event also clearly show several police officers and men of other security agencies standing by and doing nothing while this was going on. In fact the video shows that the police men were providing security cover for him.
“We view these incidents for what they are – violations of the law and evidence of the plots to rig the elections in favour of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu.

“We reiterate our earlier warnings that we will not stand by and watch anyone tamper with the democratic process and subvert the will of the Ondo people.”
Meanwhile, angry voters in Ondo state heatedly rejected an attempt by a party agent to induce them to vote for his party in the ongoing Ondo election.

A video footage showed the party chieftain who was surrounded by security officials being tackled by voters for trying to share money to electorate.

A BLOODY clash broke out in Owo area of Ondo State, yesterday, as political thugs went on rampage and thereby raising anxiety ahead of today’s governorship election.
Many people were reportedly injured during the clash said to be between supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP .

An unconfirmed source said people were killed and houses damaged. However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, denied any death but confirmed that some people were injured during the clash.

This is coming as some stakeholders traded allegations and counter-allegations of manipulating the election.
Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko and his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayo Fayose accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of deliberately working against the PDP just as the House of Representatives caucus of the PDP alleged that the APC had perfected plots to rig the election.

In a quick counter, the Ondo Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC of INEC, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, said the electoral umpire is not in favour of any party and advised Governor Mimiko to desist from making inflammatory statements.

However, the police assured that there will be adequate security during the poll, warning that anyone with more than N5000 on him or her at the polling centres would be arrested to curb voters inducement and manipulation of the exercise.
The election is holding in spite of calls for shift by the PDP Governorship Candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, Governor Mimiko, the PDP hierarchy and some groups to allow Jegede, who the Court of Appeal reinstated as standard bearer, on Wednesday, time to campaign like his other competitors.

With the INEC insisting on going ahead with the election today because it was not its fault that the PDP was having intra-party crises, the election umpire has been berated by Mimiko, Fayose and others.

INEC compromised—Mimiko

Mimiko, yesterday, raised an alarm that the INEC has been compromised and that there are plans to declare a pre-determined result.
Speaking at a press conference, in Akure, he said that the commission was about “ to foist injustice on the people of the state.”
The governor who lamented that Ondo was been treated as a conquered state said that this is “complete impunity and open rape of justice by INEC’’ because the PDP candidate was given the voters register “just 48 hours before the election contrary to the Electoral Act which prescribed 30 days before the election while he is not sure who his party agents are.’’

Governor Mimiko wondered how the commission expected Jegede to raise money within the short period and meet other urgent needs required by the Electoral Act before today’s election.
Accusing the INEC of deliberately erecting hurdles against the PDP, Mimiko said the electoral commission discarded all legal advice not to substitute Eyitayo Jegede leading to the long battle to retrieve the ticket that ended on Wednesday; refused to release the list of voters register to the PDP until on Thursday; refused to publish Jegede’s name for 30 days as stipulated in Section 34 of the Electoral Act 2010; denied Eyitayo Jegede the right to submit his party agents’ list at least 7 days before the election as stipulated in Section 45 of the Electoral Act 2010 among many others; and as of yesterday had not given PDP collation tags for Ward Collation officers.

His words: “We were expected to run a race with our hands tied behind our back while INEC also goes ahead to foist a wuruwuru to the answer result. Every resident of Ondo State knows we are free and fair people who however abhor impunity and open rape of justice. We shall not take this!
“In this instance, injustice stares us in the face and we are about being treated like slaves and a conquered people in our own country. INEC is being forced to subvert its processes, and imperil the Ondo election.. We are at a point where history requires us to say some truths to save our state from preconceived lawlessness and its ramifying implications.

“We have just been told that the same team of election ad hoc staff, which masterminded the largely controversial Edo election have been sent to our state to deliver a preconceived result for Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, the APC candidate. I have to state this here and now, that our people will not accept the method, men and process unleashed on Edo.

“We reject unequivocally the mission of this team in our State. The Edo team did not only call off collation by 9pm on election day, party agents, monitors and journalists were ordered out of the collation centres allowing for final subversion of the will of the electorates. We shall not allow such an ungodly process to be repeated in our dear state.
“The team it sent to Edo, which it is sending to Ondo is peopled by rabid supporters of APC who have displayed their brazen disdain for justice and fair play in the Edo election.

“If INEC were to be truly objective, it would have at least erred on the side of caution and safe Ondo from the polluting influence of this ad hoc team. I am by this asking the good people of Ondo State to be vigilant and insist on the sanctity of the ballot.’

PDP can’t hold us to ransom – INEC

Reacting to Mimiko’s allegations, the Ondo State REC said the commission is not biased and “INEC has no interest in any particular candidate. It is wrong to say we are protecting the interest of anybody. I don’t know Akeredolu, Oke or Jegede”.
Agbaje pleaded with the governor from making inflammatory statement, adding: “PDP ought to have put its house in order before now. What of the other 26 political parties, should they share in the crisis of the PDP? If a footballer has an injury, will the match be postponed? How can one political hold us into ransom? We even mediated in their internal crisis but to no avail. It is not our fault. They are only whipping up sentiments. It is not good for the Chief Executive of a state to make such statement. He should create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.’’

Insisting that the commission is ready, Agbaje told Saturday Vanguard that all sensitive materials were dispatched to the 18 local government areas of the state on Thursday while officials and ad hoc staff would move to their various local government and units before the poll.
Disclosing that about 1.2m voters will participate in today’s election, he said: “We have been assured of adequate security by the Nigerian Police as the lead agency in election security. We had a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security where elaborate deployment and operational plan was agreed upon.
“This involves early and adequate deployment for general security as well as specific deployment for the protection of staff and material from our state Headquarters to the 18 local government.
“We have been assured by the security agencies that any act contrary to the provision of the Electoral Act will be promptly dealt with. This is without prejudice to the right of citizens who may wish to stay some distance away from the polling units after voting to witness the counting of ballots.’’

Voters to be thoroughly searched – Police
The police, which had deployed 26,000 personnel, 20 gunboats , 12 Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs and 300 vehicles to Ondo for the election, warned those who harbouring thoughts of rigging the poll to think otherwise.

The Police authorities have vowed to arrest anyone having more than N5,000 on him at the polling units.
The DIG in-charge of Operations, Habila Joshak, said, in Akure, that instructions have been given to security agents at the polling units to arrest anyone with more than that amount in his possession.

Joshak pointed out that an order had been given that the voters be “thoroughly searched before casting their votes.’’
The move, according to him, is to prevent politicians from inducing the voters.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police Commissioner, Hilda Harrison, said the borders of the state would be closed by 8pm (yesterday) while men of the command will be stationed around the state to conduct stop and search to ensure that nobody enters the state with any incriminating item.

“I want to warn people, most especially those who have negative intents to be warned that we are out for them and we will not hesitate to deal with anyone trying to truncate the process of this election.
She added that By 12am today, there will be total shut down of the boundary, movement of vehicles will be restricted during the election too, from 6am to 8pm ‘’because we realise that election at times usually drag into the night .’’
Dickson tasks INEC, security agencies, stakeholders on peaceful poll
Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has called on stakeholders and critical actors in the process to ensure that nothing is done to undermine peace, security and stability.

The governor in a statement in Yenagoa also called on INEC and security agencies to act in a non-partisan manner according to their constitutional mandate, to provide a level playing field for the conduct of peaceful polls.
He warned against acts that are capable of undermining the security and stability of Ondo State in a desperate attempt to deliver any pre-determined outcomes because such untoward action could have far reaching negative consequences, beyond Ondo state’’

INEC has merged with APC – Fayose
Also accusing INEC of bias and planning to deploy the returning officers it used for the Edo election, Fayose said the electoral umpire had become part of the APC.
Why should those that will conduct election be hidden from Nigerians? Is election now a secret affair? The sad reality confronting the electoral process in Nigeria today is that apart from the APC, other political parties are now contesting elections against INEC.
It is clear that the Returning Officers already have fake results that they will announce to Nigerians as they did in Edo State.
Evidently, democracy in Nigeria has suffered a serious setback and it will take the insistence and resistance of the people of Ondo State for their votes to count tomorrow (today).’’

How APC’s plotting to rig poll – PDP Reps caucus

Members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the PDP, yesterday alleged of plot by the APC to manipulate the election.

The lawmakers, who restated calls for the election to be shifted, in a statement by their leader and Minority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor, said: “While many are making a logical call for the postponement of the election in view of the apparent disadvantage that our candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede is confronted with; we had hoped that the Independent National Electoral Commission would consider the logical reasons being advanced for such an extension, in the strict interest of fair play and justice.

“Nonetheless, we find it necessary to draw attention to needless shenanigans, desperate scheming and unimaginable manipulations that had been engineered by the ruling APC, its known appendages and its unseen hands towards crushing the will of the people in Ondo state by all means…
“Indeed, unspoken realities within the APC itself indicates that in Ondo state, there is a battle of APC versus APC as its Abuja forces that are not on the ground at all are backing an official candidate while the leadership of the party in the South-west is backing another, unofficially.

“While the two parties in the ‘APC versus APC battle’ for Ondo state have mobilized huge personnel and arsenal of humongous cash from Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the South-West, we note the reassuring victory that our candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, transparently achieved when he triumphed over desperate and negative forces at the Court of Appeal.’’

WOMEN!, desist from patronizing prayer houses for delivery from fake pastors and fake prophets--DR ADO ZAKARI

Beware of fake Ministers[pastors and prophets], prayer houses during pregnancy – Gynecologist

Posted: Ayodeji tobiloba

A gynecologist, Dr Ado Zakari, on Friday advised pregnant women to desist from patronizing prayer houses for delivery to avoid complications.

Zakari, also the Director, Public Health, Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Services, gave this advice in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The medical expert decried the increasing cases of pregnant women who patronised prayer houses and faith-based centres to assist them during deliveries.

He said this usually resulted into complications such as the Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), excessive bleeding and death.
“There is an increasing belief in our country that is taking over the minds of some pregnant women that it is better to deliver in prayer houses or some faith-based centres, where a pastor will pray for you and you deliver there.

“This mindset has brought a lot of complication to pregnant women because these persons do not have any technical knowledge about delivery process and what to do when the labour is prolong or obstructed.

“So most of the pregnant women eventually end up having complications such as fistula, bleeding and may even cause damage to some of their organs and even death, ’he said.

Zakari, therefore, stressed the need for pregnant women to register at government approved hospitals for ante-natal care to ensure safe delivery.

They should discountenance delivering at home or prayer houses with the assistance of unqualified persons, he said.
According to him, deliveries in most government hospitals or centres are usually free or a small token is charged for some drugs.

Meanwhile, Mrs Grace Timothy, a housewife told NAN that she was advised by some of her relatives and friends to patronise a prayer house to enable her conceive after 12 years of marriage without a child.
Timothy said that she was able to conceive a child, but was advised by the pastor at the prayer house not to visit any medical institution for her ante-natal or scan to show the condition of her child.

“I almost lost my life when labour started and I was rushed to the prayer house for delivery and it got to a point that I was bleeding extensively, and had to be rushed to the hospital, but I lost the baby.’’

She expressed regrets for her action, advising other women to always seek medical assistance from trained persons to enable them have a safe and uncomplicated delivery.

“It is good to pray, but there is also the need for one to seek medical help when the need arises from trained persons. Because God will also use those trained nurses and doctors to ensure a hitch-free delivery,’’ she said.

On her own part, a marriage counselor, Mrs Esther Bako, advised women to always seek assistance from medical centres to enable them have a safe delivery.

“I don’t see any reason why a woman would risk her life by going to unqualified persons for delivery all in the name of prayers.
“Women should go through the right channel like the hospitals, and consult medical teams God had given the wisdom, knowledge and skills to cater for our health.’’
Bako also recalled the story of a pregnant woman who went to a prayer house for delivery but had complications.

The pregnant woman was rejected at the hospital when she was taken there and died as a result of complication, Bako said.
She, therefore, appealed to the government to take action against hospitals that rejects emergency patients that were not duly registered in such hospitals.

She stressed the need for them to proffer medical attention to such victims first rather than rejecting them.

 NLC Chairman and 14 others
declared been dismissed
 also Suspend 18teachers

 By Soji Babalola, Ogun State.

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun,
has approved the dismissal of the state
Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress,
Akeem Ambali, the NLC vice-chairman and
the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of
Teachers, Dare Ilekoya.

Also on the dismissal list were 14 others.
Eighteen others, who are mostly teachers,
were suspended.

Their dismissal and suspension was part of
the recommendations contained in a report
of a panel of inquiry set up to investigate
the alleged misconduct of the executive
members of the NUT during the 2016
World Teachers Day celebration on October
5 in Abeokuta.

The officials of the union were said to
have been suspended for their roles in the
conduct of the celebration.

The recommendations of the panel signed
by the Head of Service, Sola Adeyemi,
were approved by the state government for
immediate implementation.

Our correspondent gathered that the state
government set up an administrative panel
of inquiry to look into alleged complaints
received from some members of the public
against the affected officers for their
alleged involvement “in various acts of
misconduct and contravention of extant
regulations during the celebration.”
The NLC chairman was until his dismissal
a deputy director, Community and Social
Development, Sagamu Local Government
Area of the state.

He was accused of making “inflammable
and scandalous remarks” against the state
government, which the panel noted, could
cause the breach of peace in the state.
Those dismissed from service were said to
have been found guilty of contravening the
Public Service Rules 04401,04421(c&d)
and 04406(a).

Those dismissed were A.O. Oshin, Nola
Balogun, Eniola Atiku, Solaru.O., Adebanjo
T., Akinola A.S., Oyolola S.A., Obafemi
O.B., Ogunsola Peter, Akinlade S.A.,
Christopher T.A., Ogunrombi A.A., Azeez
K.I. and Taiwo A.O.

Those suspended were Odusanya S.A.,
Comrade Akapo, Adegbesan J.O., Adelami
S. I., Obadara O., Ogunnuga O.A.,
Ayokambi T.A., Tijani A.A., Adegbesan

Ahmodu S.A., Oludotun Oliyide, Tijani Y.A.,
Awode I.A., Dada O.A. and Adesanya
Abiola.

The state government had directed the
Ogun State Local Government Service
Commission, the State Universal Basic
Education Board and the Teaching Service
Commission to implement the
recommendations with immediate effect.
But the state NLC chairman has described
the action as “executive recklessness and
abuse of all statutory laws.

He urged the workers “to remain resolute
in the quest to have their legitimate right
from an autocratic and deceitful
government.”

In a statement on Monday night, he said
he had never been summoned by any
panel, adding that the attention of the
leadership of the union was just drawn to
the purported dismissal through phone
calls.

The statement read in part, “Our call for
this strike is legitimate, just and right.
They have only shown their true colour and
this new approach is unprecedented in the
history of this country, as no state
governor has done what they are doing to
us in Ogun State.
Their past draconian efforts have never yielded any fruits, so
also will be this move to cage us in Ogun
State.

“We only want to warn that they should
not set this state on fire, even as we urge
our members to remain calm and just stay
at home.

[Nigerians recipes ]How to make Delta State banga soup

Easy way to prepare delta state banga soup

By Semilore Ifedolapo

Delta banga soup is best served with starch or eba. This is unlike the other banga stew that is native to the Igbos and popularly served with white boiled rice or yam.
This Banga soup is indigenous to the Deltans but
also loved and enjoyed by both People from Edo
state and all of the Niger Delta. If you are
looking to make the Igbo version please
This is not banga stew but they are both made
with similar ingredients. Banga stew is native to
the Igbos and usually served with boiled white
rice. While banga soup (as in this case) goes
with starch, eba or fufu.
The two are prepared the exact same way; the
difference is just the spices. This recipe will, in
the next few minutes shows you exactly how to
make banga soup like an itsekiri woman.
You can use any combination of meat for this
soup or just use plain red meat; I used a
combination of cow head, foot and red meat.
Ingredients | Serving: 12 Persons.
 Meat (1kg)
 Crayfish (half cup)
 Fresh prawn [oporo](one cup)
 Fresh Palm Fruits (Banga) (8 cups)
 Medium sized dry fish / smoked fish (1)
 Red scotch bonnet pepper “Ata rodo” (8)
 Ataiko (1 tbsp)
 Irugege (1 teaspoon)
 Oburunbebe Stick (Banga stick) (1)
 Dried Beletientien leaves (half cup) or
 Thinly sliced bitter leaves (half cup)
 3 cubes of knorr
 Periwinkles (1)
 Salt to taste.

These are pictures of some of the ingredients for
banga soup by the right hand side. All of these spices and ingredients
can be purchased from any Nigerian local
market. For the spices and banga stick, ask
those women that sell traditional roots and herbs
like zobo leaves and dogoyaro.
You should use crushed dried beletientien leaves,
also called atama leaf in Efik or thinly sliced
bitter leaves.
Start by grinding the spices. Add them all
together (ataiko, Irugege and a cup of crayfish),
blend to powder. Blend the pepper also. Wash
the dried or smoked fish and remove center
bones.

wash and precook the prawn, use half cup of
water, a cube of maggi and a pinch of salt.
I used already precooked meats. If your meat is
not precooked yet, do that now. Wash properly
and use two cubes of knorr and a pinch of salt.
Cook the meat until it becomes soft, easy to
chew and the water is almost dried. Add salt to
taste and allow another three minutes. Set aside.
Boil the palm fruit for 20 minutes, pound with a
mortar and pestle, transfer into a bowl, add
water and extract the juice. You will need about
7-10 cups of that palm fruit juice for this
cooking. It should be thick.
Use a sieve to strain the extract into your
cooking pot, allow to boil for 15 minutes with the
pot half-covered. It should be a lot thicker now.
Add the cleaned dried fish, ground (crayfish,
ataiko plus irugege), oburunbebe stick, precooked
meat, ground pepper and salt to taste. Cover and
allow another 10 minutes.

Add the crushed dried beletientien leaves or
thinly sliced bitter leaves, precooked prawn,
periwinkles and one cube of knorr. Stir, cover
and allow to simmer for 3 minutes. This is how
to make the popular banga soup that is loved
and made by the Deltans.
Serve with starch, eba,pupuru,Amala(white)or fufu.

Man Has been arraigned in court against sexual exploit with housemaid

The police on Friday arraigned a middle-aged man, Dominic Abutu, in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for unlawfully detaining a 20-year-old girl for sexual purpose.

Abutu of Karimo, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful detention and rape, which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, John Simon, said that the matter was reported by Jennifer Buba at the Wuse Police Station on Oct. 20.

Simon said that the complainant received a call from her niece stating that she was held hostage by the defendant at his house.

He said that the victim was staying at Mpape with her Aunt before the defendant got her a job as a housemaid in Maitama.

The prosecutor said that after some days the victim called the defendant and complained that she didn’t like the place she was working.

(ONDO NEWS) if care is not taking Ondo will be set on fire if INEC retains Jimoh ibrahim as PDP Candidate --Mimiko

Ondo will burn if Jimoh Ibrahim remains the PDP  candidate -- Mimiko

Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has told President Muhammadu Buhari that the substitution of the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in the state, Eyitayo Jegede, with Jimoh Ibrahim can lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.
The governor disclosed this to State House correspondents on Friday in Abuja after he met with the president behind closed doors.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had on Thursday replaced Jegede with Ibrahim as PDP’s candidate for the November 26 gubernatorial election in the state.

When his reaction was sought, Mimiko expressed shock at the sudden change in INEC’s position even as he described it as injustice.

He said the president promised to look into the matter and rectify the injustice if any.
He said: “I’m shocked. In logic, in law and in politics, there is no basis for it whatsoever.
The Jimoh Ibrahim factor in all of this is predicated on a court order given by Justice Abang. Incidentally, that court order is about zonal and state executives of PDP. That order is about 2019 election. Neither Ibrahim nor Jegede was party to the suit.

“When Ibrahim’s name was sent to INEC after a primary election was conducted in Ibadan without INEC monitoring it, without security agencies; when the name got to INEC and this Abang judgement was attached, INEC took the right decision initially by making it clear that it is not state or zonal executive that is empowered by the Electoral Act to conduct the election.
“Two, the Abang judgement on the basis of which they were putting pressure on INEC to accept Jimoh Ibrahim as a candidate was referring to 2019 election.

“Ab initio, INEC had refused and discountenanced Ibrahim’s name as a candidate. Then they went ahead and filed form 48 and from the blues, the same Justice Abang mandated INEC to replace Jegede who emerged through a primary process supervised by INEC and security agencies on live television with all delegates that were supposed to participate.

“Then, Abang ordered that Ibrahim should replace Jegede. Ordinarily, we should have disregarded the order, but we were advised that it was very important for us to appeal so that if anybody is up to a mischief, we would have taken the plank off the person.

We don’t want to take chances because somebody in INEC told us that they obey the last order in the commission. Some went to court and obtained two different orders mandating INEC not to substitute Jegede.

“We served one on INEC around 10 am yesterday and we served INEC with the other one at the close of business around 3 pm. Only around 7 or 8 pm, we got to know that INEC, for no justifiable reason, had substituted Jegede’s name and replaced it with that of Ibrahim.

“The question to ask is: on whose order has INEC done that? Apart from the fact that we have two restraining orders on INEC, INEC knows full well that Ibrahim’s primary was in Ibadan. There was no report by any security agencies that the security situation in Ondo State warranted the Movement of the primaries to Ibadan or anywhere outside the state for that matter. Under INEC guidelines, the time for substitution of candidates has even elapsed.

(ONDO NEWS) jimoh Ibrahim blast Governor Olusegun Mimiko over protest today

Mimiko got blasted on the governorship election protest by Jimoh Ibrahim

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized People’s Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in next month’s election in Ondo State, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, faulted Friday’s protest in the state as the handiwork to Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

Youths and okada riders in Akure, the state capital and Ondo had Friday shut down the two towns for several hours to show their displeasure at the decision of the INEC to substitute the name of Mr.Eyitayo Jegede with that of Jimoh as the party’s candidate.
Jegede belongs to the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party while Ibrahim is of the Alo Modu Sheriff faction.

Ibrahim in a statement entitled ‘Tyre Burning for Sympathy’ and personally signed by him said the protest had Mimiko’s signature all over it.

He alleged that the governor way back in 2009 ‘deceived’ the election petition tribunal in the state that “there were security issues in the state, leading to the cancellation of results in eight out of 18 local governments of the state.”

He added: “Mimiko called on the drivers’ union in the state, whose chairman is his relative, to gather disposed tyres across the state and burn them so as to show that there are security challenges in Akure town.

“While the tyres were burning, school children were attending their classes. Banks were opened, market women and traders were carrying on their economic activities, courts were sitting and more tyres were burning by the side of the road.

“Regrettably, Mimiko’s orthodoxy has played out to be fake, empty and unbecoming of a person that occupies the position of the governor of a state .

“This tyre burning for sympathy will not work as Ondo State remains peaceful.”

beyond The federal Republic of Nigeria President (Buhari) and the Formal president (Jonathan )

  Columnist by OKEY IKECHUKWU

As actors in a crisis-ridden political environment,

Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu
Buhari are not solely responsible for our present
national problems. .
The PDP, the APC, or the
two together, also do not bear exclusive blame
for everything wrong with Nigeria today. They
have their real and imagined shortcomings, of
course, but they are also victims of generations
of leaders and followers brought up on impunity,
consumption and arbitrary use of state power.

The many powerful people whose interests
differ from the national interest are partly
responsible for the trajectory of the two
presidents and of most past regimes and
presidents. So let us first calmly admit that our
crises have had long gestation. To fail to do so
is to ignore history, particularly the essential
elements of our own history, and replace it with
hysteria. As my friend, Bishop Kukah, said
during a recent joint television discussion
programme, and during which I agreed
completely with him: “The Nigerian nation has
been run as a criminal enterprise for too long”.
We have been building a mansion on quicksand
and with pillars of straw. The soil, quicksand as
it is, is further infested with two species of
ants, called presumption and nepotism. These
ants, which feed exclusively on straw, have
been nibbling away for decades. They have left
us with a hollow and painted frame that
conceals a lie. This lie has been on parade for
decades. It is described as an architectural
masterpiece by casual observers. An
architectural masterpiece that is not designed
to withstand the wind? Now that the whirlwind
has come, and the elements are in their
element, radical modifications (in design and
material) have become necessary.
It is not right that a nation should be
undergirded by untruth. It is also not right that a
nation should be under a political economy of
decay and corruption, warehoused and
propagated by a business and political elite that
lives in denial. When old lies are told afresh by
those who know they are lying, a time comes
when even the liars themselves won’t be sure
whether they are lying anymore. Reason? Others
would be repeating the same lies with great
aplomb everywhere.
Now that we have brought up children who have
seen shielded criminality as leadership, we have
a nation wherein hiding under the instruments of
state to violate natural justice, equity and good
conscience makes you not guilty of any crime.
Look at Nigeria today, 56 years after
independence! The dominant motifs are (1)
skewed values, (2) a flawed national psyche and
(3) an aberrant leadership recruitment process.
These motifs have given us several national
‘leadership pseudopodia’, or “false feet”.
Just as happens with Amoeba, the jelly-like
microorganism that pops out part of its
shapeless body in any direction it wants to
move, Nigeria’s leadership pseudopodia (or new
regimes with insular notions about nation
building) usually spring new agenda, new
national ideals and new aspirations on everyone
without warning and without consultation. They
have since replaced National Development Plans
with limited regime goals, and often without
plans or strategy. And it all vanishes without
trace with the demise of each regime.
A major misdirection of the State and people
occurred on January 15, 1966, when Major
Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu announced his
military coup d’etat. That coup saw a junior
officer issuing instructions to his superiors. It
saw murder as an instrument for leadership
recruitment and transformation. It saw an
officer peremptorily informing the nation (by
mere announcement about ‘Extraordinary
Orders’) that all local administration in the
country was now under the ‘local military
commander’, who would mete out any
punishment he ‘deemed appropriate’ to anyone
who disobeyed him.
It left right and wrong in the hands of
individuals of, sometimes, questionable
antecedents. It violated Service Discipline and
set new paradigms for the collapse of esprit de
corps in the armed forces. It also created a
dilemma in diplomatic circles, for which even
Ambassador Jolaosho’s experience as a
diplomat did not prepare him when the Germans
asked: “Why did your people kill your prime
Minister, instead of voting him out of office”?
That coup sidetracked the existing crop of
leaders and their ‘replacement generation’. A
generation groomed along ideological lines in
leadership recruitment stagnated for 12 years,
until 1979. The trio of Zik, Awo and Aminu Kano,
who would since given way to the likes of
Tafawa Balewa, Michael Okpara, Bola Ige and
others before 1979, turned up as presidential
candidates, because of the 1966 coup. This
created the backlog of two generations of
leaders that we are still unable to deal with
today. The average age of party youth leaders,
the National Association of Nigerian Students
(NANS) and the Nigerian Youth Movement
(NYM) says it all.
The Nzeogwu coup was ushered in by a series
of murders. It laid the foundations for
subsequent murders and abominations. It set
the tone for the eventual replacement of
professional military service and responsible
national leadership with personal and
ethnocentric desires, misuse of office and titles,
political illiteracy and petulant idealism and
exuberance. Everything forbidden by our
traditional values the popular religions
eventually became normal.
Many “Excellencies” emerged from this murk,
filling our post-1966 nationhood with sporadic
and spasmodic declarations of new national
goals, new federating units and much more.
These were the off springs of the high yielding
‘seeds of death’ sown with fertilizer on January
15, 1966. The discerning could see no deep
personal maturity, no national grand vision, little
real wisdom and no enlightened patriotism on
the part of many of the principal actors.
Do we know, for instance, that the Armed
Forces Remembrance Day we celebrate every
15th January affronts us all? That date
bespeaks impropriety and is inappropriate
accolades. Nzeogwu’s action, disguised for
decades under the mistaken notion that
“patriotism” excuses immaturity and unmitigated
arbitrary exercise of discretion, birthed many
institutional and axiological horrors that we are
living with today. It was on January 15 that
some highly respected senior citizens, and some
of our best senior military officers, were
murdered in cold blood.
One major further aftermath, over decades, is
the epidemic of prematurely retired military,
many of who have passed on, or are living
today, as frustrated and unfulfilled
professionals. Others were last seen, or heard,
as failed politicians, owners of failed banks and
failed airlines, failed philanthropists, failed
traditional rulers and much more. Yet they
initially joined the armed forces to become
military professionals, unlike some of their later
colleagues who joined during the triumph of
military regimes as a short cut to wealth.
So let us ask ourselves whether we should be
celebrating Armed Forces Remembrance Day on
the day families of some of Nigeria’s greatest
leaders are in mourning. We have several
military exploits, including the final triumph of
ECOMOG, or the day Buhari rallied the Nigerian
military to route Chadian incursion during the
Shagari Presidency, to make our Armed Forces
Remembrance Day. That will save us from
holding up a day that blights our collective
dignity as decent people to salute the gallantry
of our armed forces.
No nation develops by having its high quality
human capital and professionals, military or not,
routinely swept out of service. Not after so
much had been invested in training them! Now
that events have come full circle on all fronts
and we are seeing the impossibility of
sustaining untruth with layers of mud, there is
no good news out there. Look again: there is
only, perhaps, the dawning realization that the
nation is a grand scam perpetrated and
facilitated by public and civil servants and their
private sector allies. Look again! A dismantling
of Nigeria’s ‘false legs’, or pseudopodia, is
afoot.
We should not continue to project a day that
reminds us that a civil war ended in Nigeria with
the complete economic disenfranchisement of a
section of the country. The South East was not
really rehabilitated, reconstructed and reconciled
to the rest of the country after the civil war. It
is perhaps still not reintegrated, even today.
Chief Adeniran Ogunsanya and others protected
properties of Igbos in Lagos while the civil war
lasted and returned same to the owners after
the war. But the same Igbos lost their
belongings in another part of the country as
“abandoned property”. It was all taken over by
their fellow countrymen to whom they were
allegedly reconciled after the war. The nation’s
ill-fated leadership trajectory has been a
consistent violation of the cardinal principle of
sustainable leadership and national
development.
The nascent 16 years old democracy, has
thrown up leaders with sudden stupendous
wealth. That wealth has impacted only their
immediate and extended families, of less than
15 persons, and a few friends. Their local
communities, members of their religious
congregations, most of their friends and even
members of their extended families know how
poor or rich they were a few years earlier. Some
envy them even. The priests, traditional rulers
and other supposed custodians of public
conscience ask no questions.
They honour them, instead. Meanwhile, almost
everyone, including their kith and kin silently
regard them as thieves who got away with their
loot!
As the nation reels, let the friends and admirers
of Presidents Jonathan and Buhari pull
themselves together and stop thinking that any
criticism of the government, or person, of
President Muhammadu Buhari is an automatic
endorsement of the tenure and performance of
their man. It cannot be. The Jonathan
Presidency could have done much better than it
did, but allowed itself to be ruined by avoidable
blunders, indecisiveness, image deficits, and a
consistent failure to present an inspiring
comportment.
Friends and admirers of President Buhari, too,
should note that it can do much better than it is
doing at the moment. Insularity, with the risk of
crippling itself is the real danger. Let us realize
that there is mourning in the land and across all
divides. Nigeria’s flawed and overlooked
fundamentals have come back to haunt the
nation. .
It all boils down to the absence of truth,
deep knowledge, nobility of soul, propriety in
public office, dignity in self-presentation,
graceful ambience, competence and decency in leadership; for which neither Buhari nor Jonathan are solely responsible. Let 's continue praying!
