The police in Ekiti State on Monday
arraigned one Kolade Owolabi, 35, Tope
Olorunfemi, 22, and Isiaka Yusuf, 20, before
an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for
allegedly attacking a popular gospel/
highlife musician, Yinka Ayefele.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Bankole
Olasunkanmi, told the court that the
accused and others at large conspired
among themselves to unlawfully damage
the windscreen of a vehicle belonging to
Ayefele on October 27, 2016, at about
7.30pm at the Ewi’s palace in Ado Ekiti.
It was gathered that the musician was at
the palace on the invitation of the Ekiti
State Government to entertain the Ooni of
Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was
visiting the state for the first time after his
coronation, when the hoodlums swooped
on Ayefele and his band members.
Olasunkanmi said, “The offence
contravened Section 451 of the Criminal
Code, Cap C16, Vol 1, Law of Ekiti State.”
The prosecutor applied for a short date of
adjournment to enable him to study the
case file and assemble his witnesses.
The accused pleaded not guilty while their
counsel, Mr. Gabriel Oladimeji, prayed the
court to grant them bail, promising that
they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo,
consequently admitted the accused to bail
in the sum of N50,000, with one surety
each in like sum.
He thereafter adjourned the case till
November 8, 2016, for further hearing.
