For Fela shobayo stages exhibitions

Lagos-based artist, Abolore Shobayo, is set to host an exhibition as part of this year’s
Felabration .
Felabration, an annual festival that celebrates afro beat superstar, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is basically a music feast but Shobayo says the exhibition, titled Echoes, will enrich it as it aims at telling the Fela story from the perspective of an artist.
It is thus scheduled to coincide with the
Felabration slated for October 9 to 16, 2016.
It will hold at the TerraKulture Art Gallery throughout the duration of Felabration.
According to the artist, Echoes will include over 100 masks of Fela and the Queen Mother (Funmilayo Kuti and Fela’s queens) in diverse colours and moods.
“It will also bear a study and display of his fashion sense and wardrobe, all of which were inspired by his essence, mythology, struggle for freedom, human dignity, social consciousness, values, courage and pan-Africanism,” Shobayo says.
He describes Fela as an icon whose life and times inspired many musical acts. So, he allows what he calls the song of his struggles, to speak on in the arts, too.
Sobayo is an artist with a keen political consciousness. He is coming out with a new voice after his first solo exhibition last year, titled Room for Three at Red Door art gallery, Lagos. At the successful completion of the exhibition of Room for Three , he had a residency in Berlin, Germany, after which he completed a Harvard Copyright-X course.
Abolore, as an artist, is embarking on his second solo exhibition, having garnered more knowledge and tools. He strives to constantly create and produce insightful, exceptional and cranially-challenging pieces and concepts to inspire much more than passion for art in those who view his works. Echoes is a testament of the passion, drive and hard-work that becomes apparent with proper training, dedication to the art and the pursuit of excellence.
